Gridstream MDUS 2.0: Landis+Gyr and Ecologic Analytics develop next generation smart metering management solution

With the European smart meter market poised for growth, MDUS 2.0 fills the need for a robust, seamless, proven end-to-end command-and-control functionality for utility personnel

AMSTERDAM & ZUG, Switzerland–(BUSINESS WIRE)–September 29, 2011–Landis+Gyr, global provider of integrated energy management products and solutions, and Ecologic Analytics, leading provider of meter data management systems, are collaborating on the development of the next generation of the Gridstream Meter Data Unification System (MDUS) 2.0 to streamline integration with SAP for Utilities(R).

With Gridstream MDUS 2.0 the installation project risk is lowered and the timeline is shortened, while the integration of the SAP business processes related to meter reading and control are coalesced into a single point of management.

The global smart meter market is projected to continue growing rapidly. By 2016, Berg Insight projects that the smart meter penetration rate will increase to 52 percent in Europe alone, and the Gridstream MDUS 2.0 technology will ensure that utilities investing in the new energy business paradigm achieve the business benefits delivered by SAP for Utilities. “Gridstream MDUS 2.0 combines the proven experience, technologies and resources of SAP, Landis+Gyr and Ecologic Analytics into a focused, pre-integrated solution for utilities moving to smart metering,” said Craig Norman, president of Ecologic Analytics. Gridstream MDUS 2.0 will be powered by the technology behind Ecologic Analytics’ industry proven meter data management system. This latest development comes after Gridstream MDUS 1.0 was integrated into SAP for Utilities in 2010. Now, the Gridstream MDUS from Landis+Gyr performs two-way communication with SAP for Utilities. For example, on-demand readings and connect/disconnect processes are brokered by the Gridstream MDUS, but seamlessly requested and/or managed by SAP for Utilities system. “The adoption of smart meters in Europe is changing the way utilities do business,” said Andreas Brun, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Landis+Gyr EMEA. “Seeing a return-on-investment from the overall smart meter project starts with quickly and efficiently deploying the MDUS solution. Together with our partner, Ecologic Analytics, we bring a wealth of system functionality and deployment experience and expertise to the table.” Gridstream MDUS is based on open software architecture. This enables easy integration to the utility’s smart grid applications and ensures a future proof solution. The software can be expanded to support any Head End System following industry standards, and the utility can build also the meter park on several suppliers’ products. “We are pleased to see the proven technology and industry leadership of both Landis+Gyr and Ecologic Analytics being aligned to create MDUS solutions,” said Maher Chebbo, Vice President EMEA Services Industries and Utilities at SAP. “The deep level experience and strong global track record that these two companies bring will only strengthen utility confidence in adoption of smart meters.” The Gridstream MDUS 2.0 powered by Ecologic Analytics will be available in Q4 2011.
