Landis + Gyr wins ICG meter contract in Poland

Over the next three years Landis+Gyr will deliver over 8,000 Industrial, Commercial and Grid meters, 5, 800 interoperable communication units, and almost 3, 000 third party modems. In parallel to this contract, Landis+Gyr will implement its Gridstream Converge system in ENERGA which will cover 10, 000 metering points.

“Implementing smart metering is part of the business strategy we introduced this year,” says Leszek Nowak, President of ENERGA-Operator. “One of our goals is to improve cus-tomer services. As a distribution system operator, we plan to make data accessible, which will allow our customers to manage their electricity use. The first stage of our project, planned globally over eight years, will be implementing smart metering for business clients. We intend to fulfill this part in three years.”

ENERGA is one of six energy groups in Poland with 2, 5 million residential customers and over 300 thousand industrial customers. It is a leader in renewable energy production with about 30% market share and aims to drive AMM technology forward in Poland.

The deal follows the EU energy package coming into force in September. The two Directives and three Regulations are the latest acts to achieve an integrated EU-wide energy market and to enhance consumer protection measures.

Importantly, both the gas and electricity Directives stipulate that the Member States en-sure the implementation of ‘intelligent metering systems that shall assist the active partic-ipation of consumers’ in the gas and electricity supply markets respectively. The electricity Directive sets a timeline of 80% coverage by 2020 and every European household equipped with smart meters by 2022.
